Small Business Bushfire Recovery Grant

The South Australian Government has partnered with the Commonwealth Government to offer financial assistance under Disaster Recovery Arrangements to those impacted by bushfires in South Australia.

Financial assistance of up to $50,000 is available to impacted small businesses for costs associated with clean-up, restoration and rebuilding.

Multiple applications can be made up to the maximum amount available under the non-profit organisation grants.

  • Is my small business eligible?

    Eligible small businesses can claim up to $50,000 to help with clean-up and immediate restoration costs.

    Small businesses are eligible for a recovery grant if:
    • they are located within the bushfire-affected regions
    • have suffered direct damage to premises and/or tools of trade
    • are a registered business and has less than 20 full time employees
    • are a small business in development and it is deemed that they will be developed into a small business.

  • Is the grant payment tax exempt?

    The Federal Government has ensured that disaster relief payments, including grants to small business impacted by the bushfires are tax exempt, with legislation introduced to ensure this.
  • What costs can I claim?

    Eligible small businesses can claim costs associated with the:
    • clean-up and removal of debris, including hire of equipment, disposal costs and labour and material costs above normal wage and material expenditure
    • restoration of damaged assets and stock including safety inspections, essential repairs, purchase, hire or lease of equipment and stock essential to the immediate resumption of trading
    • re-location to, and leasing of, temporary premises when immediate re-opening of damaged premises is not possible.
    Loss of income is not eligible under this scheme.

  • What do I need before starting my application?

    To complete your application, you will need to include copies of your small business’s:
    • business registration certificate
    • current rates notices or utilities bill (proof of location)
    • latest business tax returns and financial statements
    • tax invoices/receipts for expenses.
