Wine Grape Smoke Taint Grant

The South Australian and Federal Governments have announced a new support program for wine grape producers affected by bushfires in South Australia.

Eligible businesses can access grants of up to $10,000 to help meet ongoing business costs, seek financial advice, deliver marketing activities or make improvements to ensure the business is resilient to future disasters.

Successful grant applicants will need to match funds dollar for dollar.

Applications close Thursday, 31 December 2020.

Apply for a Wine Grape Smoke Taint Grant

  • Who is eligible?

    South Australian wine grape producers are eligible for grants of up to $10,000 if they:
    • have suffered crop loss from smoke taint and a decline in revenue caused by the Black Summer 2019-20 bushfires
    • are located outside Local Government Areas eligible for Emergency Bushfire Response in Primary Industries (EBRPI) or small business bushfire recovery grants
    • are a registered business at the time of the disaster; and 
    • can match the grant with a dollar-for-dollar contribution.

  • Can I claim for separate businesses?

    Yes. Applicants who operate more than one wine grape production business under a single ABN may apply for assistance for each eligible business affected by smoke taint during the South Australian 2019-20 bushfires.

  • What do I need before starting my application?

    To complete your application, you will need to provide evidence of:
    • Sales invoices or grape research levy return documents
    • crop loss from smoke taint – this can be demonstrated through smoke taint tests or other evidence
    • bank statements, business activity statements, levy returns to demonstrate decline in revenue and sales or grapes harvested of 40% in a relevant three-month period in the previous year
    • current rates notice or lease agreement (proof of location).
