JobKeeper payments exempt from payroll tax

South Australian businesses whose employees qualify for the Federal Government's historic $1500-a-fortnight JobKeeper support payments will be exempt from any payroll tax on the wage subsidy.

While existing laws would require businesses to pay the tax, the South Australian Government will introduce urgent legislation into State Parliament on Tuesday 7 April to amend the Payroll Tax Act 2009 to ensure no additional strain on businesses already impacted by the pandemic and the necessary trading, travel and social restrictions that have been put in place.
