Small business flood recovery grants of up to $50,000 to assist with re-instatement and clean-up of eligible small businesses and repair flood damaged assets.
Small Business Flood Recovery Grants are available to help pay for costs of clean-up and reinstatement of small businesses and not-for-profit organisations that have experienced damage as a result of the River Murray flood.
A maximum $50,000 grant for clean-up and help get back to business is comprised of:
- An initial claim amount of up to $25,000.
- A subsequent claim amount of up to $25,000.
Multiple applications can be made up to the maximum amount.
You have until 31 December 2023 to complete your Small Business Flood Recovery Grant application.
To be eligible for the grant, the applicant must:
- be a small business owner or not-for-profit organisation;
- hold an Australian Business Number (ABN); or be a registered not-for-profit organisation
- own a small business; or operate a not-for-profit organisation located in the defined disaster area that has experienced damage as a result of the eligible disaster;
- have been operating the small business or not-for-profit organisation when affected by the eligible disaster;
- sole traders must derive at least 50% of their income from the business;
- be primarily responsible for meeting the costs claimed in the application; and
- intend to re-establish the small business or not-for-profit organisation in the defined disaster area of the eligible disaster.
An applicant is not eligible for assistance under the scheme:
- if the small business or not-for-profit organisation is entitled to receive or has received an amount under a policy of insurance for the relevant costs claimed; or
- for any expenses that are claimable under the small business owner or not-for-profit organisation’s insurance policy; or
- if the small business owner or not-for-profit organisation has successfully received funding or assistance from any other government source or program or donation in relation to the business, where that funding or assistance has met the relevant costs claimed; or
- for loss of income as a result of the eligible disaster; or
- for payment of employee salaries that would have ordinarily been incurred by the small business had the eligible disaster not occurred.

- If registered for GST, you’ll need to provide lodged Business Activity Statement for July-September 2022 or October-December 2022; OR
- If not registered for GST, you’ll need to provide July-September 2022 or October-December 2022 periods of:
- an official bank statement showing business transactions; OR
- accountant verified income statements.

- detailed photos of the damage as listed in your quotes, tax invoices and receipts
- a statutory declaration signed by an Authorised Witness, declaring:
- That you don’t have business insurance; OR
- That you have business insurance but a claim for damage under this program was denied; OR
- That you have business insurance but damage resulting from flood is not covered.
- a copy of a bank statement showing:
- Your bank’s name and logo; and
- The account name; and
- BSB; and
- Account number.
What you’ll need to complete the application
If you’re registered for GST, you’ll need a copy of lodged Business Activity Statement for July-September 2022 or October-December 2022; OR
If you’re not registered for GST, you’ll need to provide July-September 2022 or October-December 2022 periods of:
- An official bank statement showing business transactions; OR
- Accountant verified income statements.

Photos of damage as listed in your quotes, tax invoices and receipts
A statutory declaration signed by an Authorised Witness, declaring your name, the business name and ABN that you are claiming for, and that:
- You don’t have business insurance; OR
- You have business insurance but a claim for damage under this program was denied; OR
- You have business insurance but damage resulting from flood is not covered.
A copy of a bank statement showing:
- Your bank’s name and logo; and
- Business account name; and
- BSB; and
- Account number.
