Celebrating SA’s small businesses on MSME Day

On 27 June 2025, we join the global community in celebrating Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) Day – an initiative by the United Nations to highlight the important role small businesses play in driving economic growth and sustainability.

Here in South Australia, small and family businesses are the engine room of our economy. From local cafés and retailers to tradies and service providers, they support jobs, strengthen communities and contribute over $49 billion each year to the state’s economy.

To support the growth and resilience of small businesses, the South Australian Government offers a range of programs and resources:

• Small Business Fundamentals Program: Designed to enhance the skills and capabilities of small businesses, this program provides tailored support to improve profitability and competitiveness.
• Women in Business Program: Supporting women in starting, running, and growing their businesses, fostering a more diverse and inclusive business community.
• Sustainability Support Program: Provides guidance and support to help small businesses adopt sustainable practices, improve energy efficiency and lower costs, helping them become more environmentally friendly and competitive.
• Powering Business Grants: Register your interest now to be the first to know when these grants of between $2,500 and $75,000 open in July, to help small businesses reduce energy costs and emissions through energy-efficient equipment upgrades or energy audits.
• Mental Health and Wellbeing Program: Support for business owners and their employees to build resilience and cope with mental health challenges.
• Small Business Support Officers: Access one-on-one support through dedicated officers across South Australia, offering tailored services to equip you with information, support and resources to start, run, or grow your business.
