More time to change how you pay your tax

Small business owners who use a credit card to meet their tax obligations can continue doing so until 30 June 2027.

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has extended the transition period before it stops accepting direct credit card payments, giving businesses more time to consider alternative payment arrangements.

During this period, the ATO will consult on support for businesses and individuals experiencing financial hardship or unable to pay through other methods.

After 30 June 2027, you can still use a credit card to meet your tax obligations through a third-party payment provider. Before choosing a provider, check its credentials and consider the fees, charges and processing times.

If you need help with your tax payments, contact the ATO or speak with your registered tax professional.
