As part of the government’s Algal Bloom Summer Plan, the State and Federal Governments are increasing and extending the existing industry grant programs and rolling out a new resilience grant to support eligible businesses that continue to be impacted.
- Algal Bloom Small Business Grant: from 15 October 2025 a second payment of $10,000 is available to eligible small businesses, up to a maximum of $20,000, that have experienced a continued reduction in revenue because of the algal bloom.
- Algal Bloom Fisheries and Aquaculture Grant:
from 15 October 2025, a second payment of up to $100,000 is available to eligible fisheries and aquaculture license holders who have continued to be unable to catch or harvest their usual catch. Under this Grant, is also an additional up to $25,000 for eligible fisheries and aquaculture licence holders to support their workers.
- Algal Bloom Resilience Grant: This new grant, to be rolled out from 20 October, will provide up to $150,000 for impacted commercial fisheries and aquaculture licence holders to invest in projects that build business resilience, take advantage of new opportunities and help protect jobs.
The Algal Bloom Small Business Grant and Algal Bloom Fisheries and Aquaculture Grants have also had their end dates extended from 30 November 2025 to 31 March 2026 to ensure more businesses can access the funding.
Businesses that have already received funding through either of these grants can now re-apply for a second payment if their business has continued to be impacted by the algal bloom over a different three-month period.
The new Algal Bloom Resilience Grant, to be rolled out from 20 October, will also support impacted fisheries and aquaculture to invest in their businesses.
The Algal Bloom Resilience Grant will provide one-off payments of between $25,000 and $150,000 towards projects such as the purchase of new equipment, research and development, training and re-skilling staff, algal bloom clean-up or repair costs and more.
To be eligible for the Algal Bloom Resilience Grant, businesses must be impacted by the algal bloom, having either been approved to receive the Algal Bloom Fisheries and Aquaculture Assistance Grant or had their licence fees waived by PIRSA.
