Energy Bill Relief

Help to pay your electricity bill is available for eligible small businesses

If you run a small business in SA, you could take advantage of relief on your electricity bills through the Energy Bill Relief Fund.

What is the initiative?

Help to pay electricity bills in 2023-24 and 2024-25 is available for small businesses. Eligible small businesses will receive relief on their electricity bills in the form of either quarterly credits if billed through an energy retailer, or a once-off rebate if the business is within an embedded network.

2024-25 Bill relief

Help to pay electricity bills is available in 2024-25, with the extension of the Energy Bill Relief Fund.

Eligible small businesses will receive up to $325 relief on 2024-25 electricity bills.

You can get the bill relief if:

  • You are a small business located in South Australia; and
  • You consume less than 160MWh of electricity per year; and
  • Your business is on a separately metered business tariff with your electricity retailer
  • Or, your business is in an embedded network and you had an active account with an operator on 1 January 2024 and you receive an itemised account for your energy usage

You won't be eligible if you run your small business using electricity from home, or if your annual electricity consumption is above 160MWh.

How to access the energy bill relief

Embedded network operators - small businesses and households

If you operate an embedded network, you can now apply for energy bill relief on behalf of eligible small businesses and households on your network.

To apply for relief, you will need to complete the application form and return the form to your energy retailer.

There are separate forms for household and small business embedded network operators

Program guidelines for the energy bill relief for small businesses on an embedded network are available, along with frequently asked questions.

If a correction is required to any claims, embedded network operators are required to notify their retailer by submitting a variation form.

Applications for 2023-24 Energy Bill Relief are open until 31 December 2024.
