Business changes from 1 July 2025

Important changes affecting small businesses came into effect on 1 July 2025. These include updates to the national minimum wage, superannuation, registration fees, energy bill rebates and reporting obligations for business owners.

Some of the changes include:

  • National minimum wage increase
The national minimum wage will rise by 3.5%, increasing the minimum hourly rate to $24.95 and the weekly rate for a full-time employee to $948. This increase will apply from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2025.
  • Business name registration fees
From 1 July 2025, business name registration and renewal fees will increase in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI). Fees for one-year registration or renewal will rise from $44 to $45, while three-year registration or renewal fees will increase from $102 to $104.
  • Superannuation contribution changes
The superannuation guarantee rate will increase from 11.5% to 12%, so you’ll need to contribute more towards your employees’ superannuation.
  • Energy bill rebates update
Eligible small businesses with electricity bills may receive up to $150 in energy bill rebates from 1 July 2025 to the end of 2025. Rebates will be automatically applied to your electricity bill in two $75 quarterly instalments.
  • Reporting requirements
Some business reporting obligations will change, including updates to tax and payroll reporting. Make sure your record-keeping and systems are ready to meet the new requirements.
