New support for farming communities affected by drought
As many primary producers experience their driest season on record, the State Government is investing $18 million to assist farming communities affected by drought across South Australia.
The package has been informed by drought roundtables held across the state and by the SA Drought Advisory Group, which includes representation from key primary industries as well as state, federal and local government.
New drought support package includes:
- On-farm drought infrastructure rebate scheme: primary producers can apply for rebates of up to 75% (to a maximum of $5,000 excluding GST) for on-farm drought infrastructure to assist with preparing for and managing drought conditions.
- Connecting Communities events grants: eligible groups can apply for grants of up to $5,000 (excluding GST) to host events that foster social connection, provide community support, or support mental health-related training opportunities.
The package also includes support to assist charitable organisations with transport costs for fodder donated to primary producers, and additional health and wellbeing support, including through the Rural Financial Counselling Service and the Family and Business Support Program.
