National Reconciliation Week, held from 27 May to 3 June, is a time to learn, reflect and take meaningful action. This year’s theme, All In, encourages all Australians to commit to reconciliation every day. It reminds you that reconciliation is everyone’s responsibility and that real change comes from action.
For small and family businesses, reconciliation can start with practical steps that build understanding, strengthen relationships and create more inclusive workplaces.
Practical ways your business can get involved:
- Build cultural understanding in your workplace
Start by learning about the local Country where you work and acknowledging Traditional Owners. These small actions can help create a more respectful and inclusive workplace. You can also attend a National Reconciliation Week event to learn, listen and connect, and bring these insights back to your team.
- Develop a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)
A RAP can support stronger relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, build cultural safety in the workplace and set clear actions for reconciliation.
Reconciliation Australia provides guidance for businesses at different stages of their RAP journey.
- UseFirst Nations suppliers
Supporting First Nations businesses helps strengthen local economies and supply chains. Businesses can buy from, partner with or include First Nations businesses by using directories such as Supply Nation and the SA Product and Services Directory, managed by the Office of the Industry Advocate.
