Reminder about changes to casual employment rules

Reminder about changes to casual employment rules

New changes to casual employment rules came into effect on 26 August 2024, with further updates starting on 26 February 2025.

These changes introduce new pathways for casual employees to transition to permanent (full-time or part-time) employment under the new employee choice pathway.

An employer can only refuse the notice for certain reasons.

To help small businesses meet these new requirements, a number of resources and templates are available to help employees and employers understand the entitlements and obligations for casual employment.
