Understanding endometriosis in the workplace

Understanding endometriosis in the workplace

Endometriosis is a health condition that affects 1 in 7 Australian women by the age of 49. Despite its prevalence, awareness and understanding remain low, particularly in workplaces.

Symptoms can include high levels of pelvic pain, especially during menstruation, fatigue and other health impacts, which may affect participation at work. Many people with endometriosis do not disclose their condition due to stigma, fear of discrimination, or concern about being perceived as less capable.

Employers and managers can play a vital role in supporting staff through greater awareness, flexibility and understanding. Simple measures, such as flexible work arrangements can make a meaningful difference to those managing endometriosis.
