Navigating the realities of running a business, carrying the mental – and physical – load, managing staff, and the constant need to meet and respond to challenges can take their toll on even the most passionate business owner.
Ignite Wellbeing Co. Director, Bel Ryan, says that with the constant demands of daily operations, we may often lose sight of why we started our businesses in the first place.
“Many people I’ve spoken to over the past few weeks are saying they’re starting the year feeling that they’ve lost sight of their purpose.,” she says.
“Our mental health and wellbeing mastermind sessions, delivered in partnership with the Office for Small and Family Business, can help you rediscover your purpose and set you up for the year ahead.”
Three tips to reconnect with purpose
If you’ve lost your mojo, fallen out of love with your business, or have realised something has to change, here are three tips to help when business owners feel overwhelming or difficult:
1. Revisit your “why”
Write down or draw out all the reasons you started your business. There are often many reasons, not just one that drive us to begin. Reconnecting with why you started and what you wanted to bring to the world, yourself, your clients, or your family can be a powerful way to reignite your spark.
2. Connect with those that inspire you
Sometimes, we wake up and realise we're no longer working with the people who inspire and energise us. It could be your clients, your team, or even yourself. If you work alone, it’s easy to get tired of your own company at times, too!
Think about who you’d like to surround yourself with, if you need more people to bounce ideas off, depend on, connect with, or have fun with. Who would energise you again?
3. Finding balance
It’s common for business owners to become consumed by their work, sidelining activities that are good for their mental health and overall well-being.
When was the last time you immersed yourself in something you love, spent a day away from your laptop or phone, or enjoyed time in nature or with friends? How can you bring more of that into your life?
