Small businesses openings increase across South Australia

The number of new businesses operating in South Australia continues to rise, according to new figures.

Recent Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) data on business entries and exits in Australia showed that 159,978 small businesses were now operating in South Australia, up from 155,000 from the previous year.

The state’s hospitality sector leads the nation in net restaurants and cafes openings, with 141 new ventures, representing 28 per cent of all new restaurant and cafe openings in Australia.

Overall, the number of restaurants and cafés in South Australia was 5.1 per cent higher at the end of the 2024 financial year than it was at the start of the year.

For the second year running, the Business Council of Australia named South Australia the nation’s best place to do business.
