Recent industrial changes: employment status, rights, and wage theft

Since the Government’s election in 2022, it has introduced significant legislative amendments to Australia’s workplace relations laws. These changes have reshaped key aspects of the legal framework and will create a raft of new compliance requirements and challenges for industry.
Ai Group has extensively engaged with Government, and Parliament more broadly, in connection with the development of these amendments.
This session will focus on three areas of change of interest to small businesses:
- Changes to employment status, covering the changes to who is an employee and who is a casual, and the new rules regarding fixed term contracts;
- Changes to rights during employment, covering the right to disconnect and changes to flexible working requests and parental leave; and
- New laws regarding wage theft.
